What is it like to have a lesson with me?
What Are My Lessons Like?
What curriculum do you follow?
My method of teaching is Guided Instruction using PowerPoint.
I will do the following:
— Present the words, phrases and sentences, in three different forms, English, Spanish, and easy phonetic Spanish pronunciation
— Give the Spanish pronunciation and the student must repeat
— Correct the spelling in case is necessary, at the end
— Give screenshots to the student of the class just taken, with the easy phonetic Spanish pronunciation included so he/she can keep practicing the pronunciation by himself/herself.
How do you plan lessons?
I use audio and phonetic assisted reading, where I include the full translation from English to Spanish and an easy phonetics to assist the student to get a pronunciation as close as possible to the native one. As well as my native Spanish pronunciation as a guide, followed by the student’s pronunciation, and my correction or praising as corresponds. At the end of the class, the student will be provided with screenshots of the class so he or she can keep practicing Spanish pronunciation.
How do you measure progress?
By the student’s satisfaction, which will depend on both of us. My part provides him with my native Spanish pronunciation and the easy phonetic tools. And on the student to understand that practice makes the master, and the most he/she speaks, no matter how he/she sounds at the end the neuronal pathways will be formed, and they will be able to speak as fluent as they efforts will take him/her.
What materials/tools do you use?
Practice makes the master. Therefore, I focus on the student to practice Spanish and Medical Spanish pronunciation, with this in mind I use sets of words, phrases, or sentences. Which I present in a PowerPoint slide deck in three different slides. The first one contains the words, phrases, or sentences in English with the proper translation to Spanish and adjacent to it an easy phonetic Spanish pronunciation, to facilitate the repetition of the words after the teacher. In the second slide, I eliminate the English part and keep only the Spanish and the easy phonetic Spanish pronunciation. Finally, in the third slide I only keep the Spanish part eliminating the easy phonetic Spanish pronunciation, so the brain can fix the right information.
How can you help students with their long-term goals?
Depending on the student’s preferences, hobbies, and my experience with foreign languages. I will advise the student on different ways how they can improve their understanding of the language. Also encourage him/her, to practice, practice, and practice until they can reach as high as possible in the learning curve of speaking Spanish. And if he/she does not give up, then he/she Will be successful at the end.
